Guwahati: The northeast has the best prevalence of alcohol and tobacco consumption amongst all areas within the nation, revealed a nationwide survey.
The National Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Monitoring Survey was carried out by the National Center for Disease Informatics and Research underneath Indian Council of Medical Research, Bengaluru, the place northeast India confirmed considerably increased prevalence of present tobacco use in any kind (45.7%), each day use of smoked tobacco (15.5%) and smokeless tobacco (33.6%).

In India, the high incidences and mortality due to cancer in northeast India could be a direct consequence of such lifestyle risk factors in the population. To mitigate the problem of tobacco and alcohol in the region, we need to develop regional action plans further.”
