Mevani: Court Reserves Order On Mevani’s Bail Plea | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: An area courtroom in Assam’s Barpeta district on Thursday reserved its order on Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani’s bail plea within the case of alleged “ assault” on a policewoman. On Tuesday, the courtroom had remanded Mevani in five-day custody of Barpeta district police.
Mevani’s advocate Angshuman Bora mentioned, “We placed our arguments before the court. The prosecution tried to take an adjournment. But the court declined it and asked them to submit their arguments today itself,” he mentioned.
Congress on Thursday staged a sit-in in all of the districts to protest in opposition to Mevani’s arrest. Several social gathering leaders, together with MPs, MLAs, members of the Youth Congress, NSUI, Seva Dal and employees from all cells and organs, took half within the protests in several components. APCC president Bhupen Borah led a silent march right here and organised a procession by the streets of the city to the social gathering workplace and later courted arrest as they didn’t have permission for any demonstration.
