Assam: Hill areas in Karbi Anglong greatest hurdle in assembly 100% vax goal | Guwahati News
GUWAHATI: Hilly terrain and tribal villagers in Karbi Anglong have turn into the most important hurdle in attaining the cent per cent first dose vaccination goal in Assam. Karbi Anglong lags far behind when over 70% of the districts have accomplished the focused cent % first dose vaccination.
Health minister Keshab Mahanta spent an evening in Karbi Anglong to chalk out methods to persuade the inhabitants. Initially, faith saved many villagers in Christian-inhabited districts like Karbi Anglong away from the vaccine, however now the problem has turn into extra complicated.
“In the absence of the internet and television, the villagers are not aware of the urgency of vaccination. We are moving from door to door to convince them and with support from the state health department more teams will go to Karbi Anglong from neighboring districts to speed up the vaccination drive,” Karbi Anglong DC Dibakar Nath told TOI on Monday.
Interior pockets like Singhasan hills, Mahamaya hills and Tarapung area are far behind other districts in achieving vaccination targets. With 44% second dose coverage, the hill district is almost at par with many districts of the state, district administration officials said.
Nath added the state health department is sending more teams to these non-compliant areas. “We are going to get extra groups from close by Golaghat and Nagaon quickly to speed up the drive. About 239 vaccine-resistant and outreached villages have been recognized for which devoted methods have been formulated,” Nath informed. Nearly 70% of the area in Karbi Anglong is hilly. Nath said in the plain areas of the district, the first dose vaccination has been completed.
A health department official said they are returning dejected from the homes of many families in the hills where all the members are in the fields for cultivation. “They return at nightfall when well being groups shut the vaccine drive,” the official said.
Mahanta on Monday held discussions with the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council chief executive member Tuliran Ronghang and executive member (health) Khonsing Rongpi. Later, he convened another meeting with the district administration and senior health department officials to complete 100% vaccination even in the interior pockets.
