New Delhi: Police have registered a case towards Kerala minister Saji Cheriyan who resigned from the state Cabinet on Wednesday after coming below fireplace for his remarks towards the Constitution.

Amidst mounting criticism from numerous quarters, Cheriyan — a senior CPI(M) chief who held Cultural Affairs, Fisheries and Youth Affairs portfolios within the Cabinet — met media individuals on the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday and introduced that he has handed over his resignation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Later, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan accepted the resignation of Cheriyan and allotted the portfolios of fisheries, tradition and youth affairs held by him to the Chief Minister, in response to a Raj Bhavan tweet.
Cheriyan is the primary minister to resign from the second LDF authorities headed by Vijayan.
A Justice of the Peace courtroom in Thiruvalla on Wednesday had directed the Keezhvaipur police to register a case towards Cheriyan on the premise of a plea moved by an Ernakulam-based lawyer for allegedly insulting the Constitution, police mentioned.
