2 Colombian journalists shot lifeless, probe begins

Two journalists had been shot to dying by unknown assailants on a motorbike, who attacked them whereas they had been touring in a automotive on a freeway in northern Colombia, police stated on Sunday.

Leiner Montero, the director of a web-based radio station, and Dilia Contreras, the director of a web-based information web site, had been killed close to the municipality of Fundacion within the division of Magdalena as they had been coming back from patron saint festivities in a close-by village.

Magdalena police commander Andres Serna stated that, in accordance with preliminary investigations, a combat had occurred involving Montero and several other others.

“After this act of intolerance, the journalist decided to leave in his car alongside Dilia and another man, and on the way they were killed,” the officer informed reporters.

“We are committed to the citizens of Magdalena to resolve in the shortest possible time this sad case involving two journalists who were highly appreciated among their union, family and acquaintances,” he added.

Although authorities stated it stays unclear whether or not the murders had been associated to the journalists’ career, the Foundation for Press Freedom known as for the case to be investigated rapidly, and their work taken under consideration through the investigation.
